Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Dead people don't tip well. - Captain Lee

Dead people don't tip well. - Captain Lee

Well, another season of Below Deck is upon us and this season’s yacht is sailing in Tahiti. So, of course, here are my thoughts on the crew after episode 6.

Captain Lee- BAMF! I love Captain Lee and that’s that. He seems very practical, wise, and caring. Captain Lee also seems more cognizant of crew BS than Captain Sandy does. Sandy loves kiss-ups, Captain Lee isn’t about that nonsense.

Chief Stew Kate- I actually really like Kate. After since she assigned fonts to the crew in the second season, I’ve liked her. She is very witty and snarky, and focused on the job. Obviously, the show is edited and we don’t see everything, but it seems like most of the time that crew don’t like her, it’s because she thinking about work and not their desire to party or silly dramas. I also think it’s pretty telling that she tends to get along with the second stew. On Below Deck: Med, Hannah is also fighting with the second stew over her perceived lack of work. The second stew is experienced and, while not a chief stew, knows how the yacht should be run. So, if the second stews never complain about Kate not working enough, she clearly is killing it. I like that she has a friend this season, which means we have more opportunity to hear Kate’s one-liners.

Bosun Chandler- Nope. Chandler is being portrayed as lazy and a shit leader, and it seems pretty true. The number of times that the deck crew has wanted a formal schedule and still don’t get one is ridiculous. I think Chandler’s, to quote Captain Lee, “hard-on” for Rhylee and his lack of a schedule will be his downfall. I don’t expect him to finish the season. I read online that he is with Jamie from Below Deck: Med and I am devastated. She is WAY too beautiful, interesting, and hardworking to go out with him.

Josiah- He seems fine- good and snarky and he knows his job. In the first episode, I figured he would either be besties with Kate or they would hate each other. They’re friends and roommates in the “penthouse” cabin, which I am still confused about. It kind of looked like their room looks over the rest of the crew areas, but that can’t be right. I don’t really have much to say about him. He hasn’t had any interesting storylines as of yet, and, quite frankly, as long as he’s friends with Kate, he’ll be portrayed in a good light.

Caroline- To paraphrase Donna Meagle, is there something that she needs a lot of but has taken none of? She seems completely unhinged, and not in the fun way like Kat from seasons 1 and 2. She is always crying, getting her feelings hurt then apologizing to whoever hurt her feelings, and getting mad at people for no reason AT ALL, like when wanted Chandler to take out the trash and he was still hard at work (well, hard at work for Chandler), then got mad that he said he was busy. At the time, I wasn’t paying too close attention, but Caroline, I’m assuming, is the one that majored in psychology, which prompted Kate to say that people who major in psychology are usually crazy. I don’t really get the Chandler and Caroline storyline. Like I feel like I missed a scene or something. When/why did she start liking him and/or why does Kate think that? It just seems weird. I will say I genuinely enjoyed when Caroline got mad at Chandler and then the next day apologized to him and he had no idea what she was talking about. I also thought it funny and entirely accurate when Ashton said that he saw what it would be like to go out with Caroline and thought no way.

Rhylee- Rhylee is growing on me (despite the ridiculous spelling of her name). Initially, I thought that she was obnoxious, but I think she wants to do a good job and do things correctly, but struggled a bit not being the one in charge. In fact, I wouldn’t even say that she necessarily has a problem with authority. Yeah, she was a bitch to Kate on the walkie-talkie but she apologized pretty quickly. Her issues with Chandler are entirely different and I think it’s very telling that Ross pretty quickly apologized for mentioning Rhylee to Captain Lee when he went to complain about the communication issues in the deck department. Ashton, as well, has looked out for Rhylee over the course of the season, while growing progressively frustrated with Chandler.

And finally, the Jamie and Colin of this season, Ross and Ashton… the heroes of the show! I have to say, I didn’t like either one at first. When Ashton said that he had been a stripper, I just thought, nope, and Ross seemed pretty militant, but I now LOVE them both. They seem like hardworking, sweet, stand-up guys who just want to make some money as part of a successful yacht crew. They are guys that you would want on your team for sure, and I don’t think that Chandler gets it. I am dreading the episode when Ashton gets injured. I’m also excited for the episode in which Ross hopefully is promoted to bosun.

Okay, I realized that I totally forgot Chef Adrian… Adrian, so far, is like Josiah to me. I don’t have a lot to say about him. So far, so good. His food looks delicious and he is definitely, incredibly talented, but otherwise… um…. Yeah, no exciting storylines. I did enjoy when he told Caroline she seemed like she would snap at any moment, which causes her to heavily deny this, thus neatly proving his point.

Well, this is supposed to be the best season yet, and I have to say, so far I am loving it.
